Monthly Roundup! - June

Yay! Happy Birthday to me! And [livejournal.com profile] citizen_cam who shares this awesomesauce day with me :D

And a big *hug* and thank you to whoever gifted me with the lovely candy necklace for my profile!

But! onwards to a summary of my fannish month!

Fic that I recced
I snagged the brilliant and cracky category of Humor again this month at [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec so I could continue with more fun pic!fic. (I still have more recs to go, so I've signed up again :D)

"Cannot Find Planet" by Flying Officer Bennet
This one is a very fun and clever visual gag. You just have to pay attention and read it :D

"Stargate Action Figure Theatre: Sam, Daniel and the Planet of the Eighties" by [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia4077
*grins* Abyssis has a very wicked sense of humor, and there's evidence to prove it in this brilliant combination of action!figures and all of those toys we had back in the '80's. The My Little Ponies elevate it to that special brand o' crack that just takes the cake.

"Peep Peril by [livejournal.com profile] aurora_novarum and Shirley Feeney
I love and adore it when people decide to get all cracky with their action!figures - it totally makes sense to turn the photos into fic! And Peeps, although they seem kind of cute, are also totally creepy en masse. :D

"Stargate SG-1 Sims" by [livejournal.com profile] moonshayde
Episode 1: Getting to Know You (Do I?)
Episode 2: When AUs Collide
Episode 3: The Ongoing Saga
I just love and adore this series - I don't know, but there's just something incredibly hilarious about screencaps of an actual game where these kind of alternate versions of the team get up to pixellated highjinks. Plus, the sight of Jack crying about burning down the kitchen has me in stitches EVERY time!

There's still time to sign up for reccing duty! It's only 4 fics over a month - not hard at all!

Fic that I wrote

"Beside me, singing in the wilderness" | (PG) | 4365 words
Gen, Daniel and Skaara Friendship, Abydos
He tastes it from his fingers, sweet and fermented, like summer wine.
Written for the [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon

"The Fannish Requisition" | (PG) | IMAGE HEAVY
More SP Generator SG-1 fun as Vala hatches a plan...
Written for the lovely [livejournal.com profile] pepper_field as a very belated b'day gift

Fic that I read

There were some awesome fics that came out of the [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon

"Jester's Silence" by [livejournal.com profile] holdouttrout
Set during "Unending" Trout mines the pathos of the situation for a little bit of comedy with an edge. Vala and Teal'c as pranksters, and it's fun and sweet and also a great insight into their growing dynamic.

"Magnificent Desolation" by [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia4077
This has been recced far and wide, and I'll add my voice to the chorus. I had the privelege of being a beta for this fic and seeing it come together. This is Jack and Sam and the Space Program and all of those closely held dreams about going "out there" that I think we all have.

"Not The Same, and Yet" by [livejournal.com profile] randomfreshink
Sam and Daniel Friendship is my fic kink, and this one hits all of my buttons. It's the two of them exploring the implications of meeting their dopplegangers (or alternate selves) and it's just beautiful and simple and very much them.

"Target Practice" by [livejournal.com profile] aurora_novarum
There was a heap of fic with Teal'c in this ficathon (huzzah!) and this fic featured early season 1 Sam and Teal'c as they skirt about getting to know one another. I really loved this one for the small beats about mutual respect and the glimpses into Teal'c's reaction to our priveleged Western world.

"They're waiting all the same, With their flashlights and their semaphores" by [livejournal.com profile] beanpot
This is an excellent fic, with an intriguing structure that pulls you right into the fierce hope that all the characters cling to. I won't spoil the plot for you, but it's a great story that grips you all the way through.

And some more fic!

"Fingerlengths"> by [livejournal.com profile] ayamgila aka [livejournal.com profile] crazedturkey
Being the bad friend that I am, I missed this gem when Turks first wrote it. It's a rather haunting apocafic scenario, sad and heartbreaking and it feels very real.

"Five Crossword Puzzle Clues That Jack Worked Out" by [livejournal.com profile] paian and [livejournal.com profile] catspaw_sgjd
Heee! This was one of my prompts for [livejournal.com profile] sg1_five_things and both Paian and Catspaw have great takes on it. Paian is a clever slashy bunny with a visual interpretation and Catspaw has a very sweet fic.

"The Stars Still Look The Same" by [livejournal.com profile] surreallis Sam/Daniel
A most excellent timestamp to the brilliant fic that Jenn wrote for me in the [livejournal.com profile] sd_ficathon last year ("Our Lost Skies Reborn") That fic was AU Sam and Daniel picking up the pieces in the aftermath of the Goa'uld invasion and you should SO go and read it now, yes! And this little follow up is a lovely bookend.
